Admiral Juanna Nagala and her XO on board her Battlestar..

Excerpt--

When an intel-department began to use the term “dumb-luck” to explain something instead of handing out a hundred-page report detailing every possible factor and the most absurd scenarios, you knew something just wasn’t right. But luck seemed to be the providence off fools, children and warships named Athena. No soldier wanted to rely on luck, it was a fickle mistress and as a tactican and strategist it was hard to account for. Unfortunately luck had the habit of playing the lead role in the play that was war.

“She must be one lucky ship.” Her XO said after a moments silence, and she nodded her agreement.

“Go in discreetly, make a run across the system broadcasting false IFF looking like Colonial units, and then jumping out. Sounds like a textbook false-flag-operation.” She said as she began to work things out in her head, her eyes unfocused, staring blankly at part of the bulkhead.

Her XO nodded and she continued with her train of thought.

“The problem is, we would have found out eventually, someone would just have to compared reported fleet positions with actual fleet-positions, immediately raising a red-flag at the appearance of a new squadron. We have buildings full of people who sit around all day doing exactly that.” She finished, and turned her attention towards her XO, hoping he had anything to add.

“Seventh Fleets Intel-department seems to think they were working on a timeframe, meaning it wasn’t important if they were discovered after their trip through Cyrannus, as long as they could get accurate intel. They think it was a prelude to a massive Cylon assault meant to decapitate colonial defences.”

She knew that it didn’t really matter what the intel-department thought. The simply fact was that the Cylon’s had deployed forces over the peace-line, which meant the Cimtar-treaty had just been flushed down the toilet, breaking more then forty-years of peace. The responses to a break in the treaty were hardwired into the colonial military, from lowest grunt to highest admiral, human intervention at this point was a mere formality.

Case: Blue, the prepared defensive plan against an all out Cylon assault was now in effect. All restrictions concerning the deployment of nuclear weapons were now lifted.

One way or another, the Twelve Colonies of Kobol were now once again at a state of war with the Cylons,.

Fortunately the Colonial Fleet had found out that they were at a state of war before the actual shooting started.

She handed back the report to her XO.

“Take this, get on the wireless and wake a couple of million people, if they aren’t already. Send out messengers to all the other fleets, make sure they have gotten the alert, and recall all of Seventh Fleet’s dispatched squadrons out on patrol back to Picon with all due haste. Report that all colonial units shall activate Case: Blue”

“Yes ma’am.” Her XO snapped to attention and moved away to the wireless.

“Tactical! Set condition one throughout the fleet.”

“On it!”

The Admiral continues to think fast and furious as the fate of the Kobollian Colonies are at stake.
